This is a design that is not only very old, but can still be found in use today, with good reason to. It is an excellent design to cut curves.
The long blade and the open grip will cause the knife to follow a line, as opposed to being influenced by a short blade and choked grip, it is surprising how much the movements of our hand effects the cut when we are moving it.
The long curve also lends itself surprisingly well to freehand cutting, think of the needle of a record player following the groove of the record. It just would not work if we applied too much force.
Our “seconds” stock may include knives that didn’t pass final QC standards - perhaps the finish is imperfect, or the handle wood has minor blemishes - but these are still fully functional tools.
The cutting edge remains excellent, the steel quality remains the same, and each knife retains the design and craftsmanship you expect from Better Together.
Factoring in small cosmetic imperfections, we pass on a saving to you - making it an ideal chance for leatherworkers to access high-quality blades at a more affordable price.
Below is a reference of the imperfections
1. D2 Walnut - Brushed finish on blade, missing chamfer on handle, gap between scales and blade at back end
2. D2 Walnut - Light scratches on both sides of the blade
3. D2 Walnut - Light scratches on one side of the blade
4. O1 Beech - Light scratches on both side of the blade, scales slightly long
