The Half Head is an exceptionally versatile leatherworking knife, capable of both push cutting and pull cutting depending on the task at hand.
 
In a conventional grip, it excels at cutting both straight lines and curves with little need for a rule or template. Turn the knife into a reverse grip and it becomes an effective pull-cutting knife in the Japanese style, offering excellent control and visibility of the cut.
 
The distinctive handle shape comes into its own in both cutting styles, encouraging a relaxed grip and allowing the knife to work naturally through the leather.
 
The grind angle has been carefully chosen to maximise cutting performance without becoming so fine that it binds in the material. This makes the knife highly effective for push cuts while still providing enough blade profile to rock through heavier cuts when required.
 
In both grip positions, the blade shape has been designed to minimise the risk of contact with the user's hand, making it comfortable and safe to use throughout the working day.
 
Materials & Construction
The blade is laser cut from a choice of 2.5mm 14C28N stainless steel or O1 carbon steel and finished with a vibropolished surface.
 
The 14C28N version is available with sustainably sourced Black North American Walnut or Limited Edition Indian Rosewood handles. The O1 version is fitted with British Beech handles.
 
Choosing Your Steel
 
14C28N Stainless Steel
A premium Swedish stainless steel offering excellent corrosion resistance, excellent edge retention and low maintenance. It is ideal for makers seeking maximum performance with minimal upkeep.
 
O1 Carbon Steel
A traditional tool steel valued for its toughness, ease of sharpening and exceptionally keen edge. O1 develops a natural patina through use and rewards those who appreciate traditional tool steels.

We still have a limited number of the original D2 versions available while stocks last.
D2 has long been a popular choice for leatherworking knives thanks to its excellent wear resistance and edge retention. As we transition the Better Together range to 14C28N stainless steel and O1 carbon steel, the remaining D2 stock is available at 25% off.
Once these knives are sold out, they will not be produced again in D2.
 
Sharpening
For best results, we recommend maintaining the edge using a flat strop charged with polishing compound.
