The straight fleshing knife is a traditional tanning tool designed for the preparation of hides and skins. Simple, robust and highly effective, it has been used for generations to remove flesh, fat and membrane, helping to prepare the hide for the tanning process.
Used in conjunction with a fleshing beam, the straight blade provides excellent control when scraping the flesh side of the hide, allowing the user to clean the skin without unnecessary damage. It can also be used for de-hairing and general hide preparation, making it a versatile addition to the tanner's workshop.
Handcrafted in Sheffield by George Barnsley and Sons, this knife follows the time-honoured patterns that have served tanners, curriers and leatherworkers for centuries. Built for practical use, it is equally suited to traditional tanning, historical craft demonstrations and small-scale hide processing.
Available in 24" and 26"
Please note: As these tools are handcrafted, slight variations in finish may occur, reflecting the traditional methods used in their manufacture.
